Simpatico

Simpatico is simply irresistible. On a crystal clear twilight, we were seated in the comfortably modern dining room, which opened onto their much sought after outdoor terrace. Their open pizza kitchen was pumping out a delightful fresh bread scent, perfuming the entire restaurant. The dishes here are rustic Italian comfort food.

We ordered the capricciosa pizza to start. Generous helpings of sausage, artichoke, mushroom, and black olive dotted every slice. The bread was chewy and super fresh, the crust thin and crispy. Another starter of beef carpaccio with walnut, artichoke and pecorino cheese warmed the palate. When we finally got to ordering our mains around 8pm, we were told many of the dishes we wanted to order – we had been eyeing our neighbors dishes with envy – were sold out, including the spaghetti vongole, roast spring chicken with rosemary, and the ink ragliolini with lobster and zucchini. Instead, we went for the fresh pappardelle with Bolognese ragu, and the tagliatelle with broad beans and crispy ham. Our compliments to the chef, both sauces were silky and sublime.

The wine list is mostly on the Italian side, but we ordered an Australian Pinot Noir, which we regretted shortly after opening. Still, our poor selection couldn’t distract from what was in all, a highly pleasurable evening out.
